The Full Story
First Impressions
The Helix Midnight Luxe arrived compressed in a box, which is always slightly nerve-wracking for a $1,900 mattress. But within about four hours it had fully expanded to its 14-inch profile, and the off-gassing was minimal — a faint foam smell that disappeared within a day. The GlacioTex cooling cover is immediately noticeable when you lay your hand on it. Not cold, exactly, but distinctly cool in a way that regular mattress fabrics never are. It feels like the cool side of the pillow, except it's the entire surface, and it stays that way.
Sleeping on It
We tested the Midnight Luxe over five weeks, and the cooling scored a perfect 10/10 in our testing — the only mattress we've reviewed that achieved that. The GlacioTex cover genuinely works. After six hours on a warm summer night, the surface still felt neutral rather than the body-temperature warmth you get from most memory foam mattresses. It won't actively cool you below room temperature like an Eight Sleep, but it prevents the heat buildup that makes traditional foam unbearable.
The pressure relief is phenomenal for side sleepers. The memory foam comfort layer cradles your shoulders and hips without bottoming out, and the zoned lumbar support from the pocketed coils keeps your spine aligned. I'm primarily a side sleeper and this is one of the most comfortable mattresses I've tested. Back sleeping is nearly as good. Stomach sleeping is where it falls short — the medium-firm feel isn't quite firm enough to prevent hip sinking for heavier sleepers.
What We Loved
Edge support is exceptional — 35% less sinkage than the average hybrid when sitting on the edge. If you share a bed and tend to sleep near the perimeter, you won't feel like you're rolling off. Motion isolation is also near-perfect at 9.7/10. My partner's midnight bathroom trips didn't register on my side at all. The 15-year warranty is the longest we've seen for a hybrid mattress, and it reflects genuine confidence in the build quality.
What Frustrated Us
The main trade-off for all that pressure relief is responsiveness. The higher-density memory foam means the mattress is slower to bounce back — if you move positions frequently at night, there's a noticeable lag as the foam reshapes. It's not a dealbreaker, but combination sleepers who shift between back and side will notice it. The mattress is also heavy (around 100 lbs for a queen), so plan on having help to get it positioned on your frame.
At $1,899 for a Queen, the Midnight Luxe is about 32% more expensive than the average hybrid. You're paying a premium for the GlacioTex cooling and the reinforced construction. Whether that premium is worth it depends on how hot you sleep — if overheating is your primary complaint, this is one of the best solutions available without going to an active cooling system.
The Verdict
The Helix Midnight Luxe earned its perfect cooling score. It's the best passively-cooled mattress we've tested, with outstanding support, motion isolation, and edge support to back it up. Side sleepers and couples will love it. Stomach sleepers and those who want a bouncy, responsive feel should look elsewhere. At its price point, it competes directly with Purple's Restore Hybrid and beats it on cooling, edge support, and motion isolation — though Purple wins on responsiveness.
